To use Blackboard you will need 2 things:
LOGIN: You will be assigned a 5 character student prefix consisting of a 4 digit number and a letter  (4012x, 4013x, etc.)
PASSWORD: You will be given a password ( Don't forget them!, Don't tell anyone!).

Can you Login to BLACKBOARD?
Login to Blackboard. If you are successful click on "DISSCUSSION BOARD".
Click on I HAVE SUCESSFULY LOGGED IN.
Now click on ADD A NEW THREAD.
ALL subjects and threads should begin with your student number (i.e. 4012x)
Write in the subject NEW STUDENT (It should look like 4012x New Student
In the message tell me your name and anything else you would like to say. I begin to set up your website

Create a folder where you can save all your work (files).
The name of the folder will be your student number. This is the same as your login/user name (4 numbers and a letter).. 
This folder should be made in MYDOCUMENTS. 
Be aware that your teacher may ask you to keep your work somewhere else (on a disk, or school computer server)
ALL your work will be saved in your folder located in C:\mydocuments
 

There are 3 rules to file naming.

  • ONLY USE NUMBERS AND LETTERS
  • ONLY USE LOWER CASE LETTERS (NO CAPITALS)
  • NEVER USE SPACES
  • NEVER USE CAPITOL LETTERS
How to name a file?
Each time you complete a document it is work is called a file..
You will be told the name of the  document
Since we cannot have 2 files with the same name you will add a prefix or beginning part to each file name. This will be your login/user name (4 numbers and a letter. This way you will get credit for your work.

EXAMPLES: Suppose your LOGIN is 4012x and you want to name a file for "contest1". 
You will name the file "4012xcontest1.

Saving a new file requires a file name and a location.
Your location will always be the same. Your student folder
The file names will be different but the first 5 characters will always be your login/user name
For now all your documents (work) will be saved on your computer in the folder you created C:\My Documents\4012x

File extensions.
 1. All files must have an extension (typically 3 characters). These extensions tell the computer the program(s) needed to open that file. Some extensions are: * .html = web document,   *.doc = Word document,   *.xls = Excel document,   *.jpg = photo graphic,   *. gif = drawn graphic, 
*.ppt = Powerpoint,
